Immigration Appeal Division Expands Virtual Proceedings

The Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) has issued a Practice Notice on the expansion of virtual hearings for immigration appeals.

As of October 22, 2020, all immigration appeal hearings will be scheduled virtually unless it is not appropriate for a specific case and previously scheduled in-person hearings can be changed to virtual hearings at the appellant’s request. Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) conferences and other proceedings will also be held virtually where possible.

This expansion will ensure continued access to justice while protecting the health and safety of all participants. For further details please consult the Practice Notice on Scheduling Virtual Hearings for Immigration Appeals.
