Scheduling, virtual proceedings and in-person hearings at the Immigration Appeal Division

The Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) has issued a notice regarding hearing resumption. It provides information and direction on the scheduling of hearings, measures related to in-person hearings and the introduction of virtual proceedings.

The easing of COVID-19 restrictions means that the IAD can start to resume some operations at IRB offices. In resuming hearings, the IAD is carefully balancing the need to protect the well-being of those appearing before it with its mandate to decide appeals. The notice outlines which hearings will be held in-person and which ones will be held virtually. In applying this notice, the IAD will continue to exercise flexibility in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Counsel, appellants, designated representatives and Minister's counsel should refer to the notice for more information.
